Vintage Wristwatches

There’s nothing quite as nostalgic as wearing a vintage wristwatch. You should just consider several things before you make your purchase:
1. Most Vintage wristwatches made before the late 1940’s or early 1950’s had to be wound on a regular basis. So, if you don’t want to wind your watch everyday, look for one of these later self-winding models. If you purchase an earlier vintage wristwatch then make a practice of winding it on a daily basis.
2. The earlier models were not water resistant either. Therefore, if you purchase one you will need to be especially careful not to get it wet so that you don’t damage it.
3. Shock proof wristwatches also didn’t really begin to appear on the market until the late 1940’s. That means that if you buy an earlier piece you will have to pay special attention to be sure that you don’t drop it or bang it. If you do drop it then it is quite possible you may damage the wristwatch.
4. Your vintage wristwatch will need to be cleaned and oiled every couple of years. If not, dirt will build up over time and eventually the watch will stop running.
